Good morning Fans of Faith/Family Friendly TV! Remember when I first set up this site and the whole idea behind it was to highlight the world of faith and family friendly movie/tv/music content, etc. I think I did it a bit pre-maturely because until now, I don't feel like that was anything real to report, other than the fantastic work Dallas Jenkins does with "The Chosen". I've been busy with a job that has taken over my life and not a lot of free time to write anything special... but I've got a few days off this week... and just in time because now I do have something to report. It's been far too long since anyone cared to inspire our spiritual souls on network TV. While Bill Abbott had control of Hallmark, it seemed like Hallmark was the best place to go for clean, family and faith friendly content but it turns out, they were willing to blur the lines between what truly makes for "family/faith friendly" and what doesn't. Not saying everything on Hallmark is bad; one must just choose more carefully when picking programs on the Hallmark channel these days. Except for Bill Abbott. Him leaving Hallmark and setting up his own network, Great American Family, is the best thing to happen to Network TV in a long, long time because he truly DOES care about the content his network is promoting. True, getting it off the ground has taken some time. Some are getting frustrated over all the classic TV Shows filling up the schedule. We want original content. We want content that will inspire us. We want content that will give us something to think about. This is why I think the marriage between "Great American Family" and "Pureflix" was an inspired idea and one that I am truly excited about. This is just the kind of thing this site was created to promote. Last night's offering. The Abigail Mysteries, on Great American was a Pureflix original that fit the bill for faith and friendly content that inspires the soul to a tee. A young "true crime" podcaster, Abigail, buys a house in the town she grew up in and after moving there, reconnects with a lovely senior woman who is beloved by all in this small town. Then the unthinkable happens; our beloved senior passes away and to most it looks like natural causes, but our "Aurora Teagarden" wannabe doesn't buy it and sees a reason to be concerned about foul play. The older woman had left a gift on her porch, a lamp, with a scripture reference that made it seem like she was trying to send a message. As the investigation continues, it becomes clear that she knew she was in danger and was using carefully planted scriptures to help her new neighbor and crime investigator solve the mystery, with the help of a local cop who Abigail knew well from when she was younger. As the story evolves, you see this young woman, struggling with her own faith, reconnect because of this older woman who seems to be seeking her help from beyond the grave to uncover the truth. When was the last time you saw a movie with multiple scripture references which takes the time in the course of the story to explain what the scripture means in context. All the details fit. They all made sense. It was an enjoyable watch. Thank you, Bill Abbott, for pursuing excellence in faith-based storytelling for people like me, who like to find TV content that inspires the soul. In other news, The CW is under new management and is seeking to bring better content into its schedule as well. Their first act towards making this change? Getting the rights to air The Chosen on their network. On Sunday nights, at 8 pm, you can see an episode of The Chosen. This began three weeks ago, so next Sunday will be Season 1 Episode 4. True, there are plenty of ways to watch this wonderful show in a full series binge without ads. But I have been watching it on The CW anyway just to help its ratings. Hollywood needs to be sent a message that this is the kind of content that has been sorely lacking. That there is an audience of people who would like to be inspired by the tv shows they choose, and not always feel like they have to compromise their morals to enjoy a little TV.
We know that, in the end, the powers that be at Hollywood don't really care about inspiring anyone. They have their agenda and their marching orders. But just like all other industries, not EVERYONE in the industry is evil. There are those seeking to do good things. We need to support those people. Bill Abbott and Great American Family/Pureflix UpTV Dallas Jenkins with The Chosen. Kingdom Story Company, who in conjunction with Lionsgate (who I think must have thrown away their Hollywood contract to partner with such great people), has produced some great movies lately. They have given us many, many wonderful movies such as "Jesus Revolution". "I Can Only Imagine". "I Still Believe" to name a few. Kevin Sorbo Angel Studios, who not only gave The Chosen it's help getting started but now is the one who has given "The Sound of Freedom" it's voice in theaters. I'm sure there are many others. These are the people we need to support if we want to send a clear message about truth telling and true faith/family friendly content in media. It appears that Great American is launching some new movie content, some of which are Pureflix originals, on Monday and Saturday nights.... would be great to support them as much as we can. Monday, August 7 (8 p.m. ET) with the premiere of Love on Repeat, starring Jen Lilley. When architect Amber (Jen Lilley) finds herself in limbo, re-living the same day repeatedly, she attempts to make changes in her professional and personal life that will save her from the cycle. Unlikely Angel, a Pure Flix Original, starring Jillian Murray, Saturday, August 12 (8 p.m. ET). Janie (Jillian Murray) is a power player in the boardroom but is falling apart at the thought of becoming a new mom. A silent prayer is answered when an Angel intervenes and fast forwards her life so she can learn to trust God and her purpose. **I've seen this one before on the Pureflix App. Fun movie. Wedding Cake Dreams starring Donna Benedicto and Markian Tarasuik, Monday, August 14 (8 p.m. ET). As a young girl, Carrie Watson (Donna Benedicto) placed a piece of wedding cake under her pillow because her mother told her the tradition would make her love dream come true. Two decades later, Carrie is shocked to discover the man she dreamed about is at her younger sister’s wedding. Summertime Soulmates starring Jenna Michno and Christian Howard, Saturday, August 19 (8 p.m. ET). In Summertime Soulmates, a conventional curator facing financial crises (Jenna Michno) works with an avant-garde artist (Christian Howard) to develop an unconventional exhibit. Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters, a Pure Flix Original, starring Robyn Lively, Monday, August 21 (8 p.m. ET). In Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters, a wealthy businessman (Bart Johnson) learns of his daughter’s (Carrie Alexander) sudden engagement to a missionary and makes it his mission to make sure she is closer to home. When his efforts go awry, he is forced to reconsider what being a strong father really means. Dream Wedding starring Rebecca Dalton and Jesse Hutch, Saturday, August 26 (8 p.m. ET). Sisters Kate (Rebecca Dalton) and Megan (Christa Taylor Brown) attend a local wedding fair and jokingly enter Kate in a raffle for a dream wedding package, though she has no current plans to marry. When Kate wins, the sisters must put on a show or be mortified by the joke gone awry. Learning to Love , a Pure Flix Original, starring Ina Barrón and Philip Boyd has its cable television premiere, Saturday, September 2 (8 p.m. ET). Harry (Philip Boyd) and his two daughters lose faith after his wife and daughters’ mom passes. The family hires a nanny and are pleasantly surprised by Steph (Ina Barrón) who brings never-ending warmth, positivity, and faith into the home. I plan support the Great American Family network through the fall and through the Christmas season. Prayers for great success to those who care about clean, faith and family friendly content in media.
